“When you write down your ideas you automatically focus your full attention on them. Few if any of us can write one thought and think another at the same time. Thus a pencil and paper make excellent concentration tools.”
One of the most powerful habits you can establish in your life is to write things down.
Here are three reasons why it’s so important….
1. Ideas and new goals don’t stay in your mind for long. – How many times have you had a great idea in the shower or while driving then later try and remember it but can’t.
Great ideas can pop up at anytime but don’t hang around. So capture them fast and write them down. I carry a small notepad with me wherever I go for my blog post ideas. They can come fast but I’m not always in front of my computer to start writing. So I never forget an idea and use my list all the time.
2 When you write down a goal it all the sudden becomes much more important.
A written goal brings clarity and focus. It’s a map for your mind to follow. Clarity is most important in times of stress or failure. Written goals help you stay on track during those times and keeps you from quitting.
3. Our minds are powerful things but sometimes it needs to “unload”.
It’s very stressful to have to remember every little thing – like how many eggs are left in the refrigerator. You become less stressed and can think clearly when you can declutter your mind by jotting down what’s on it.
Feeling relaxed improves your health and helps your day to go smoother. Having it all written down gives you an overview of what needs to happen so you can also solve problems faster.
Make Journaling a Daily Practice
Journaling is a great way to reflect on how your life is really going. Writing down your feelings, negative or positive, will help you see where you need to control your thoughts about yourself, your business, and about other people.
If you write down everyday how much and what you did for exercise, you can look back and maybe notice you just worked out once this week. Same with your business. Write down your goals for the week but also write down exactly what you did to meet them. Then reflect so you can adjust for the future.
We are all busy and need some self reflection and keeping everything down on paper will keep us focused and moving forward with what we are wanting to accomplish.
If you are one who wants to improve your life, build a strong business, and have focus and clear direction then write down those goals.
If you’re new to this then start with a 30 day goal, then 60, then 90 days. It’s better to hand write them. I t’s tempting to stay with the digital age and put them on your computer or phone, but there’s something about making your goals come to life when you use a pen and paper. Put your goals where you can see them everyday and read them out loud. This is a powerful exercise.
If you want to take it to another level then record your goals with your own voice and listen to them before you fall asleep. This will help you get your goals into your subconscious mind and then there’s no way of stopping you!
